How to train your dog to walk on a treadmill.

It appears that people think that training your dog to use a treadmill is an extremely challenging task. You can make it about as difficult as you want. The Big R Dog Treadmill is designed with that specific challenge in mind. It goes as slow as you can possibly think so the dog doesn't get scared and that the dog can adjust to it as quickly and smoothly as possible. This should not be a traumatic experience.

The key is starting off slow! Let your dog only take a few steps at the slowest pace possible and then let him/her off the treadmill. You want to wait and entire day or so and then increase the time to about ten seconds. Repeat the next day and extend to twenty seconds. After a week or so of doing this, the time will be up to 3-4 minutes at a snail's pace. In about two weeks time, you will have increased the speed and have them walking for ten minutes or so.

If you push this too fast, you risk alienating the dog and scaring it. That is the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. So, just remember to take it slow and you and your dog will be up and running in no time.
