Dog Trust Exercises

dog trust exercises

How to get a dog to trust you. The main thing to do in this situation is to remain calm, be calm and assertive. There are certain things you can do to help build trust between you and your (or someone else’s) dog.

Stay calm:

It is always best to be the calm one and to let them know that you are not excitable. They will naturally feed off your energy.

respect their space:

Let them be the one to approach you. Remember - ‘no touch, no talk, no eye contact.’

get on their level:

It is ok to sit on the floor, kneel down, just don’t forget to ‘Respect their space.’ You are going to be much less intimidating at their level.

let them come to you:

Once you have done the first three things, this last thing will come much more easily. Once they do come to you, remain calm and possibly let them walk away and then come back to you. It will return and know that you are zero threat.

take them for a walk:

This is probably the best thing you can do. Migrating with one another is one of the best ways for you two to build a bond over time. This can obviously be modified on the treadmill.
